Mantrailing & Scent Work
GAK9
team
Shared Experience. One Team.
We are a K9 team specializing in mantrailing and scent work. Our experience comes from years of training, collaboration with search and rescue organizations, and participation in real-world Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in the USA.
Our training is based on the GAK9 methodology and hands-on field experience. We emphasize an individualized approach to each K9 team, developing the dog's ability to work independently, and the handler's ability to accurately read their dog's behavior and respond appropriately to the situation.

GAK9 TRAINER · K9 HANDLER
Barbora Wetterová
Experience in real-world Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in the USA and hands-on K9 team training in the field.
Before returning to the Czech Republic, I was a member of North Carolina Search Dogs in the USA, where I worked as a K9 Trailing Handler and Ground Searcher. I participated in regular SAR training exercises and real-world searches for missing persons, gaining hands-on experience working as part of a K9 team in operational search environments.
In mantrailing, I focus primarily on reading canine body language, understanding scent behavior in different environments, search strategy, and problem-solving on the trail. My training approach is based on understanding each individual dog's behavior and developing the handler's ability to accurately interpret and support their dog's work.
I am a certified GAK9 Trainer and hold AMPWDA Trailing Field Level 2, GAK9 Urban Level 1 Trailing Handler, and GAK9 Urban Level 2 Trailing Specialist certifications under the guidance of Jeff Schettler.
I hold the NCEM Land Search Field Team Member (NC-8100) qualification, which meets the requirements of ASTM F2209 and NIMS Wilderness Search Technician.
Jaroslav Wetter
Experience in real-world SAR operations, mantrailing, and ground search operations in the USA.
I was a member of North Carolina Search Dogs in the USA for several years, where I was involved in mantrailing and ground search operations. We trained regularly in a variety of environments, preparing K9 teams for situations they might encounter during real-world search operations. As a team member, I also participated in actual searches for missing persons.
Through my involvement in SAR, I gained experience not only in working as part of a K9 team, but also in ground search operations, land navigation, and search strategy. In mantrailing, I focus primarily on working with dogs in different environments, reading canine body language, and problem-solving on the trail.
I hold AMPWDA Trailing Field Level 2 and GAK9 Urban Level 1 Trailing Handler certifications, earned under the guidance of Jeff Schettler.
I also hold the NCEM Land Search Field Team Member (NC-8100) qualification, which meets the requirements of ASTM F2209 and NIMS Wilderness Search Technician.

Mantrailing
What Is Mantrailing?
Mantrailing is a method of locating people in which a dog uses an individual scent sample to follow the unique scent trail of a specific person.
While working a trail, the dog must navigate a variety of conditions – from changes in surface type and airflow to contamination from other human scents. The dog's ability to work independently is essential, as is the handler's ability to accurately interpret the dog's behavior and respond appropriately to the information the dog provides throughout the trail.

Preparation for Real-World Deployment
Real-World Trails Don't Follow a Script. Training Should Prepare You for That.
During a real-world search, it is impossible to know in advance which route the missing person took, how scent has dispersed, or what conditions the team will encounter. That is why our training incorporates diverse environments, scent conditions, and challenges that require the dog to make independent decisions and the handler to accurately interpret the dog's work.
